Casio PX-110 Privia Digital Piano

Review by David K. Miller for Casio PX-110 Privia Digital PianoRating: I`m adding this critique of a PX 310 I`ve owned since 2007 because it has the same sound generation system, keys and speakers as the 110. I bought the 310 because I got tired of lugging a full-size keyboard to jobs (Alesis QS1). The Privia in a fabric case comes in at under 30 pounds. My old SKB hard case weighted that much empty!

The Privia has a pretty heavy touch that is very like to a piano except that it feels slightly `spongier` and the repetition rate is not as quick as a grand piano. You`ll find that if you`re playing classical music.)

The national speakers are only enough for use in a little room.I noticed early on that the good was very realistic through headphones (Sony MDR-V600), so I reasoned that the small speakers couldn`t accurately reproduce the samples.I now run through two Mackie SRM350 powered speakers in world and it sounds good. The Privia`s tone is shiny and a bit weak/strident in the midrange, but I counteract that by turning the `brilliance` control of the keyboard way grim and using a middle setting on the built-in reverb. If I`m in a position that requires more precise tone control, I run the keyboard through a Behringer mixer (UB1204FX)that has more digital effects and equalization bands.

A small annoyance is that when playing faster jazz or classical music with full chords, it`s reasonably prosperous to `outrun` the keyboard`s 32-note polyphony limit when using the damper pedal. When that happens you either hear notes being cut off early or successive notes won`t sound.I believe the new Casio keyboards have at least 64-note polyphony.Still, I don`t mean this will be a big problem for most casual pianists.

Although the Privia isn`t in the same conference as high-end electronic pianos (and certainly doesn`t get the equal or step of a grand piano), it`s even a big care for the cost and more than adequate in most non-classical performance situations.
