Check out Jaime Abeytia's blog HERE. He was the start to describe that Dan and Pat Haggerty's mother has endorsed Joe Moody in the contentious District 78 race. This is huge, but for different reasons than Jaime states.
I differ with Jaime's assessment of Mrs. Haggerty's clout as an endorser, but that's not the report here.
The literal account is the share struck between Dan and Dee early in this election cycle.
or Dan's mother to get out against Dee in theMoody race, isto break the address made between the two.
A little more info-By all accounts Dee and Dan put their differences asides for thiselection. Theirdifferencesstem from the liberation of Pat Haggerty two days ago by Dee.
In short, Dee promised to remain away from my race against Dan in substitution for Dan's absence from helping Jay Kleberg. I see their motives - getting elected and holding your place is more important than revenge for one's now highly paid lobbyist brother (nobody thinks Pat Haggerty is hurting a bit since being bounced from the seat).
I could get actually used Dee's God-like power over the company in my race. Had Dee said the word, the company would receive not invited Haggerty to events instead of leaving me off of the list. repeatedly.
Kleberg could have easily won given a Haggerty endorsement in thenortheast. He came close anyhow, but the Haggerty seal of approval would have been worth five or siz percent in this election. For Haggerty to all of a sudden not smash Dee and his financiers upside the head ocne the master started, was weird and can simply be explained if there was some form of backroom deal cut.
Jay and I saw whateverthis deal wasworking at every issue and behind closed doors. Of course, we were allergic to what's going around us in an election. The verity of the thing is that this is big boy politics and these types of deals are par for the course.
Dee owed me a blackeye for my critique of himin the past. I expected the retribution. However, I felt his lighting of my wife and so the subsequent assassination of my wife's character by his Austin consultant's staff was plenty to level the score, he didn't find that way, I guess. And let's not forget - Dee needed the Haggerty's to win thenortheast. I do make my big boy pants on and have separated politics from patronage and we nevertheless use his firm (JDW)in some capacities.
Haggerty had all the ground in the universe to cut a trade with Dee and rest away from Jay Kleberg. Kleberg could provide him nothing. Dee took out his comrade and no doubt could bring him out - Dan saved his own ass by turning his game on Kleberg.
It's politics - It's not pretty. But I know it.
